Moon's strenght and the other benefics

                In Phaladīpikā is said:

In warding off evil and in promoting auspicious effects Jupiter is the most powerfull of all planets. Venus possesses half of the auspicious effects of Jupiter and Mercury possesses only half of that of Venus. But the Moon’s strength is the foundation of the strength of all the planets. – śloka 11, cp. 4

This śloka is very useful. Here it’s clearly defined which Graha has more strength to mitigate evils and promote auspicious effects in a decreasing manner. We see that the two brāhmaṇas: Jupiter and Venus are the most powerful in this context, because as counsellors and ministers they can teach us how to achieve success in a certain matter.

But the most interesting thing here is:

“…Moon’s strength is the foundation of the strength of all the planets.”

As Moon is mana kāraka (significator of mind) it needs to be strong, otherwise the person will not have emotional and psychological health to deal with his life. So, even when good yogas are present in a chart, if Moon is weak, so the person cannot enjoy the yoga results.

In the determination of kāla bala (temporal strength) for example, if Moon is in dark fortnight the strength of malefics increase, and if it is in bright fortnight so will be with the benefics. In a similar manner, a more optimistic person can enjoy the good opportunities of his life, while a pessimistic and depressed person will not enjoy the opportunities and will attract bad circumstances to his life. So, to enjoy the good promises of a chart, Moon needs to be strong. For that the following indications can help:

(1)  Moon with high pakṣā bala, which occurs from the śukla aṣṭamī to kṛṣṇa aṣṭamī, or the eight lunar day of bright fortnight to the eight lunar day of dark fortnight.
(2)  Candra yogas are present, like benefics in 2th or 12th (or both) from Moon, etc.
(3)  Moon gets positioned in good signs like cancer, taurus or friendly signs. This have to occur in rāśi, navāṁśa and drekkaṇa especially.
(4)  The birth was during night time.
(5)  Moon is in 4th house or with high dig bala.
(6)  She is aspected or conjoined benefic planets.
(7)  When she gets positioned in the last drekkaṇa of a sign.
(8)  When the birth occurred in a monday.
(9) When Moon is in a even sign and in his own horā (D2).

So the more of these indications present in a chart, stronger the Moon will be, and in this way the promises of a chart can be enjoyed. A strong Moon shows a strong mind which is needed to deal with everything in this world.

For those with weak Moon mantra japa and prāṇāyāma can be performed as in this way they will strengthen their minds and get a better control over their emotions.
